Ron Steinke -President of RIM Consulting Group Inc.
Ron has over 20 years’ experience in Records and Information Management, specializing in developing records management programs. He has been engaged as a Records Management Consultant in many facets for the development of a Records and Information Management Program and has worked with a wide range of clients in both the public and private sector. He has excelled in the area of records management through hands-on work experience in the City of Winnipeg (1973 -2005) and as the Records Manager for the Public Works Department (2001-2005). This consisted of working with 9 Divisions, over 2,000 employees and over 400 PC work stations, handling the development of retention schedules, vital records program, file classification/taxonomy development, Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Coordinator and the development of records management training courses for City Employees.

Physical Records Under Control at Last
Like most companies today, producing and saving documents,
files, information as electronic information has become normal.
Even with an implemented software solution for
electronic/digital records, many organizations are still struggling with
managing their physical records. Most not only have issues locating the paper
but have no idea what actually lives in all the boxes. There are loads of
companies with no solution or that have multiple spreadsheets of data that were
created or home grown databases and not maintained. Locating
records, inability to effectively manage costly storage space or execute any
disposition is commonplace.
Major software vendors have focused on digital
records and left physical records alone.
At WesternIM we heard this story so many times,
that over the past summer we set out to provide a simple passive management tool
to help Records Professionals manage and resolve these issues. The solution was a quick, simple and inexpensive tool
for compiling an inventory of physical records, enabling fast search,
classification management and disposition identification, specifically designed
for Records Professionals and using the latest technology on laptops and smart
phones. We call it WISPIR (WesternIM Information System for Physical Inventory
Records).
